Title: 3D Castle Textures [REQUEST]
Description: Or a link please

brett14 - August 26, 2009 05:41 AM (GMT)
Hey, does anybody know where I can find some nice 3D castle textures (or dungeon textures)? By that I mean many textures that will fit together to make a nice 3D castle (10+) but preferably (20+). I need this for a 3D game I'm making (Yes I am actually making a game, not a tool or demo... shocked? :o ). It would be even more appreciated if you made them, because then there could be easy addons etc.

All textures must meet All of the following
-they all have to be free, they are not being used in a commercial project (although it would be useful if they could be... Just in case I want to reuse them)
-Resolution must be higher than 256x256 (512x512 preferred)
-They must be seamless (repeatable) along the X/Y Axis, Z is not needed, although it would allow for more complex maps :D
-Credit will be given with a link, major credit will be given if you make them. If you have happened to have purchased some already, could you please give me a link  ? Thanks

Do you want it realistic? Or sota of cartoonish

user posted image user posted image

Both are repeatable (Seamless)

brett14 - August 26, 2009 04:34 PM (GMT)
I would prefer them being realistic, although if they are cartoonish that'd be okay too. The cartoonish one you showed would work, however I would much prefer the realistic one (read the following). What I am doing is making a 3D dungeon multiplayer fps shooter. The dungeons are being made in my own level editor, that allow for multiple floors, ramps, teleporters (maybe, if so not in yet), different sized rooms with multiple doors in/out of them etc. It's already working, and I have made a few maps. However they have the same texture everywhere which looks horrid <_< . So I need textures that would fit a castle and a dungeon.

The only thing that really matters with them is that they are all consistent. In otherwords I don't want 5 realistic ones, and 5 cartoonish ones. Thanks B)

[EDIT]
Something like This would be perfect! I would use those, but they cost $$$...

Mick - August 26, 2009 04:50 PM (GMT)
hmm, il have a look around.

If i can't get/make realistic il have to go with cartoonish.

10/5 Realistic Tex
1/5 Cartoonish Tex

brett14 - August 26, 2009 04:55 PM (GMT)
Hey mick, something like this would be perfect, however it costs $$$. Click on the iamge to enlarge it, (I would rip them) but they are watermarked.

I meant one or the other, not both.

brett14 - August 26, 2009 05:12 PM (GMT)

PS: How do you extract the textures?

Mick - August 26, 2009 05:16 PM (GMT)

Crap! Just realized my bro uninstalled it a few days back, and I no longer have the cd or image file.... I do have other games though that I may look into (Morrowind).

ohh i hated morrowind! The story was too short.

I have a no CD crack on mine so i don't need my disk. I would send it too you if i could...

brett14 - August 26, 2009 05:57 PM (GMT)
Morrowind has its ups and downs, I personally prefer it because you couldn't get the best items by going into a hellgate (or whatever they are called). It took time to find them, and all I did was kill towns of people anyways :P . I think I'll take textures from Neverwinter Nights, nobody knows what that old game is, and all the resources are not compressed/protected, so they are right there to take.

Mick - August 26, 2009 06:01 PM (GMT)
Are you gonna take the ones i listed above?

Dosent matter if you don't ;)

I've never heard of Neverwinter nights... Is it a game set in the summer <Bad Joke>

brett14 - August 26, 2009 06:06 PM (GMT)
It's a really old bad game - don't buy it. They were originally developing it for DX6, but when they finished it something like 6/7 years latter DX8 was out, and almost DX9! Even then it is still one of the worst game I've ever played...

[EDIT]
I'm probably going to use it, however maybe not? IDK we'll see if I need more etc.

'it' are you refering to the 10 i posted or the one at the very top

if you need more, il gladly get more oblivion textures.

Also i was thinking on making a death match game but the last time i tried that i failed... Does that ever happen to you? I've never actually completed a project, i always seem to discontinue them... I just realised you don't have an avatar... XD

I just realised you don't have an avatar.

Yeah I do, your internet is just too slow *quickly uploads an avatar* hehe, see?? Anyways you're right I never got around to it, I might add one latter (didn't actually add one).

Yes, I'm going to use all of the textures (well I'll pick out a few). Yes, I would like more, I'm just wondering, can you find any textures with like faces on it or old windows (no glass)? Like in the FPS example given by mark, the faces on the bricks would be perfect. Just want to add something else to it, so it isn't just plain old walls.

[EDIT]

Yes that happens to me quite a bit, however since I've been making so many tools it's happening less and less, because I can get more done quicker at a higher quality level. The only games I ever really seem to finish are deathmatch games, because you can test any element of the game at any time, you don't need much of a story.
[/EDIT]

Mick - August 26, 2009 06:39 PM (GMT)
Hmm i looked and could find any faces and the windows didn't fit the wall i give you, they are for wooden places

Thats a good point about deathmatches aswell.

brett14 - August 26, 2009 06:45 PM (GMT)
I just googled it and found out how to make really nice realistic repeatable textures in photoshop! I'll probably make a few that I'll use.

brett14 - August 26, 2009 10:10 PM (GMT)
Hey Mick, can I have some more textures? They worked perfect, even though I'm only using 5/10 of them. Here's a screen of what I currently have in the level editor, it's a little building with 3 floors, and a bridge. There's more to the level, but you can't take a screen of the whole thing at the same time :D . I'm going to add more etc, but anyways tell me what you think of this. [It took me about 6/7 mins to make the whole thing]

PS: Can I have some more of the sewer textures if you can get any? Those textures pwn, but I only have 2... I would like about 10 of those, so that they [fit] together nicely, and you don't have weird texture [glitches] when you change the texture on the wall. The textures you gave me are all good, but they don't fit together very nicely :( (the sewer ones are not bad)

PS2: Ben (Pieperson) if you ever read this: I PROVED YOU WRONG! Collisions work perfect in it. Take that [XD]

Thanks again
~~Brett14;

IDK why it's resolution changed when I uploaded it, it was (1680x1050), I guess it was too big... Anyways here's a small screen of it.

yeaa....

brett14 - August 26, 2009 11:08 PM (GMT)
well it can now save and load, and it can undo/redo EVEN when saving, it saves in such a way that that information gets saved with it! This is done by saving the data from the first thign created to the last, and when you load you can retake the last action etc.

Mick - August 26, 2009 11:47 PM (GMT)
Ok i got 25 textures, i think 4 skys and 2 vines (Overlay) and 19 walls

Download ZIP File:
MediaFire (11.1MB)

Need more? Il get em.

WHFF Uploading is taking forever at least 25 mins... :( and what do ya know. It failed :( switching to mediafire.... 10 mins... Done!

Wouldn't the movie "The ring" be so scary in 3D, when the girl come out of the TV. duddeee.

brett14 - August 27, 2009 03:41 AM (GMT)
hehe, i created a 6 story fps deathmatch arena, and it kicks ass! Collisions are almost at perfection, they are except a small glitch I found when colliding with the side of a ramp and a block. It takes the wrong blocks Z into account and so it drops me down to the net story through the floor... not good.

Anyways Thanks alot! They all help

brett14 - August 27, 2009 08:03 AM (GMT)
Now this is awesome. Collisions are pixel perfect, no errors [after 2 hours of making and testing maps] and extremely fast (optimised). I'm running a 1200 poly map @ a constant 350-460 FPS. The new PC I just got (it was $300) can run the map at about 80-90 fps, which is not bad for an integrated piece of sh** graphics card.

Not sure if you care or not, but I'm bored so I'll say how I optimized the collisions because it could help other users. Running the whole map at once, which what I originally did was horrid... I was getting about 1/8 the fps I am now, and sometimes it'd drop even lower (to about 40). I realized I'd need to fix them up a little bit. So I split the map into 64 sub-models that is the map for collisions, and I only check against the one that I am currently on. (There are more than 64 sub models on larger maps). Then I go and collision check the sub region that I am in, so I only need to collision check what I have a chance to collide with, and just draw the rest. So now no matter how big the map is; the speeds will not change when checking for collisions. The only speed differences will be in the drawing of larger maps, which I'm not worried about quite yet. (The maps are an average 500-5k poly).

Nice! Thats awesome! I don't think Ben could complain now.

"integrated piece of sh** graphics card."

lol. I had one of them on my old Dell optiplex sx270 and it could barely run half life 2 which is pathetic.
Look i found an awesome website:
